Going Down - Heidsieck Monopole Blue Top Brut

Heidsieck Monopole Blue Top Brut NV - Although many people assume Heidsieck Monopole is made by the same people who produce Piper Heidsieck, those people are wrong, sort of. In fact, this Champagne House is owned by the same people that own Pommery: Vranken. But both Champagne Houses trace their origins to the same founder, Florens-Louis (actually Florens-Ludwig - he was a German immigrant) Over the years, the business has split into three Houses, Heidsieck Monopole being the original estate. The third is known as Charles Heidsieck. We drank the Monopole Blue Top Brut NV ($39) and promptly forgot it. Which is also what happened to the passengers on the Titanic shortly after they drank it. The wine is pretty to look at before you open the bottle, but unimpressive in the glass. Not a bad champagne, just not a good one either.
