Reports are circulating that the actress Paris Hilton is wondering who sent her a $40,000 magnum of Veuve Clicquot on the recent occasion of her 27th birthday. While I am willing to believe that Paris Hilton is a 27 year old actress, I am not prepared to concede that anyone in their right mind is paying $40,000 for a magnum of Veuve Clicquot. Don't get me wrong, Veuve Clicquot is a wonderful Champagne with an excellent sense of style. But the most expensive bottle of Champagne, according to Forbes was a Methuselah of 1990 Louis Roederer Cristal Brut Millenium Cuvée that sold at Sotheby's auction house to an undisclosed rapper for $17,625 and can be purchased in Switzerland (online at Lucullus.ch.) for $33,642.
