Buried Treasure - Bulgaria

If you've been searching for a reason to visit Bulgaria, I've got one: Buried Treasure. According to recent reports the treasure of King Ivan Shishman was discovered buried beneath the remains of an ancient church. The King ruled Bulgaria from 1371 until 1393, however, he was an unwilling vassal (i.e. puppet) for the Ottoman Empire almost the entire time, ruling the Ottoman Balkans (which at that time included Greece, Albania, Bulgaria, and the former Yugoslavia. Shishman was beheaded by the Ottomans once he was no longer useful to them. Had Shishman lived, he would have witnessed the utter defeat of the Ottomans throughout the Balkans at the hands of Timur (Tamerlane) in 1402. The treasure consists of over 100 silver coins having a value of appoximately $15,000. Arrrgh.
